ABOUT
My name is Julia Birmingham and I am a graduating student of baking and pastry from The Culinary Institute of America. I was a transfer student during the 2020 Covid Pandemic. I knew my passion was to become a professional baker and food business owner; this passion is what lead me to make the leap and jump head first into the best school for baking and pastry in the United States. I believe you must bring your whole self to the table if you want to thrive in today’s crazy world. You have to follow your passions no matter how scary or strange you feel they may be. All of these elements brought me to start Jules Desserts.
This blog is a little insight into my life as a baking student, food writer, and aspiring food business owner. I am from the Hudson Valley, New York but am moving to the sunshine state of South Florida with the love of my life and pet bunny, Olivia after graduation. I am so excited to document my journey not only in school but what I am lucky enough to pursue after I leave college.
I decided to start this blog at the beginning of my culinary school journey. I wanted to document in real-time what it was like to be a culinary student at an amazing institution. This page has blossomed to be much more than that to me. I have created social media pages to go along with this blog. These social media pages have allowed me to share my work and creations that I have made along my journey.
I recently started my food writing and food photography classes in school. I have now realized that I not only love making the food but also the creative aspect of documenting the food in my photos and in my writing. There is something really special about taking a beautifully technical image of the food I just made and plated. I love that I am able to write insightful pieces about recipes I have created. I am working towards building a business I am proud of in Jules Desserts and hope you decide to come along with me on my journey!
